Earth Report Series 1

Posted: 2 May 2001

There are three films in TVE's Earth Report 1 series which deal with mountain issues.

The first film, Gorillas on the Slopes, looks at the precarious lives of the mountains Gorillas in Bwindi and Uganda.

Half the population of mountain gorillas in Bwindi inhabit the 'Impenetrable Forest'. The programme covers promising strategies to relieve pressure on their refuge.

The second film, is entitled Table Mountain. Towering over Cape Town, Table Mountain is one of the richest biological resources on earth. Under The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), efforts are underway to protect the Mountain's flora and fauna.

A third film in the series entitled, Best of Both Worlds, is set in the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan. In this region traditional medicine enjoys a status equal to that of modern medicine.

The isolated Kingdom only opened its borders in 1961, since that time it has built up a far- reaching primary healthcare system and several modern hospitals. Patients now have access to both systems, and hospitals and clinics dispense herbal as well as modern medicines.

These 5-minute films form part of TVE's Earth Report I series and are available in video compilation along with other films from the series from:
