Set up in 1989, the Norwegian Government and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) established an environmental information centre in Arendal, Norway. The centre was linked to UNEP's Global Resource Information Database (GRID). The aim of the centre is to provide environmental information and communications, with a special emphasis on making science-based knowledge understandable to the public. Its website includes press releases, reports, regional information networks and news. The centre also has a special interest in climate change.
