Essential health care which at the very least should include: education of the community regarding prevalent health problems and means of alleviating or preventing these; the promotion of adequate supplies of food and proper nutrition; basic sanitation and adequate safe water; maternal and child health care including family planning; the prevention and control of locally-endemic diseases; immunisation against the main infectious diseases; appropriate treatment of common diseases and injuries; and the provision of essential drugs.
